Here are highlights of Cherry Hill High School East’s successful track season:
- Sectional winners.
Olympic Conference American Division Champions for the first time in school history.
- Indoor Eastern States Champions in the 4x400 meter relay for the first time in school history.
- Third consecutive victory in the 4x400 meter relay at the world renown Penn Relays. The boys made school history two years ago when they won for the first time the South NJ Boys Large School Section of the 4x400 meter relay at the world renown Penn Relays (Terence Owens, Mike Oliver, Marcus Phillips and Alex Reber). They were repeat champions in that same event in 2011 (Mike Oliver, Marcus Phillips, Brad Krell and Alex Reber) and won for the third year in a row in 2012 with the team of Brad Krell, Kevin Barry, Joe Pellegrino, and Alex Reber.
- First place in the Woodbury relays 4x100 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay, and the 4x400 meter relay. This was the first time in East history that a relay team won at the prestigious Woodbury relays.
- The 800 meter sprint medley is ranked ninth in the US (Brian Regan, Kevin Barry, Joe Pellegrino, and Alex Reber)
In addition, the team boasts many individual accomplishments, including:
Alex Reber is the first high school All American in the history of Cherry Hill East Track and Field. Alex will be attending Villanova University on a full track scholarship this fall. He is arguably the most highly decorated athlete in CHE sports history. Alex is one of New Jerseys premier 400 meter and 400 intermediate hurdlers. He is a seven-time state champion in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay. He was ranked fifth in the US for the 400 meters during the 2010-2011 indoor season. When it comes to true competitors, it does not get any better than Alex Reber!
Marcus Phillips was an integral part of the team that won the first two Penn Relays 4x400 meter titles and is one of New Jersey's finest 400 intermediate hurdlers. Marcus is a four-time state champion: 400 meter intermediate hurdles (2011 sectional state champion) and a member of the 2010-2011 indoor 4x400 meter, 2011 outdoor 4x400 sectional, and the 2011-2012 indoor 4x400 record-setting sectional team. Marcus was injured at this year's indoor high school nationals. He will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point and competing for the West Point track team next season.
Joe Pellegrino will be attending the University of Missouri in the fall. Joe was a member of the Eastern States, Woodbury, Penn Relays and state indoor sectional winning relay teams. Joe will be competing for the University of Missouri track team next season.
Brad Krell will be attending Franklin and Marshall College in the fall. Brad was a member of the winning teams at the Woodbury and Penn Relays. Brad will be competing for the Franklin and Marshall track team next season.
Brian Regan will be attending Bucknell University on a full football/academic scholarship. Brian was also a member of two of the winning Woodbury Relay teams. Brian is one of South Jersey's best sprinters; he is undefeated in dual-meet competition this year in the 100- and 200-meter dash.
Kevin Barry is a junior and was part of the winning Eastern States, Woodbury Relays Penn Relays, and indoor sectional winning teams. Kevin gave up his first love, basketball, to concentrate his full efforts on track this year.
Congratulations to these outstanding athletes and to the entire East Track Team for their success. Congratulations, also, to their coaches Anthony Maniscalco, Mike Surrency, and Kurt Phillips.
